George Spence – Live on Radio for Children in Need

My 14 year old son George played on live radio for the first time last night on Radio Shetland for the Children in Need programme.  I dropped him off at the studio and went out to my car and switched on the radio to listen. I got my mobile phone on record to capture him playing fiddle along with Kirsten Henry on piano. It was a wild night with gale force winds and heavy sleety showers (which was rattling off the windscreen on my car!) and there was also a helicopter flying overhead, so it all added some interesting sound effects to my already poor quality phone recording!

Here is a couple of sets I managed to record in the car. The first is a lovely slow air composed by Phil Cunningham called ‘The Pearl’. The second set is two tunes composed by George, ‘Da Booncy Castle’ followed by a tune he hasn’t got a name for yet and finishes with a great reel composed by Gideon Stove called ‘Da Brig o’ Fitch.
